Carvill Brothers smash course record:

Brothers Jim and Tommy Carvill are no strangers to Kellys Golf Centre. With Ireland International Jim perfecting his game with our practice facilities and Tommy taking his kids to our weekly competitions they know the place like the back of their hands.

Tommy Carville broke it and held the previous course record at an impressive 6 under par. 6 under was a terrific challenge for the best golfers and while some came close, none could match or beat Tommy’s personal best. Brother Jim fancied his chances of beating the record and had a head-to-head with Tommy to see who would earn the bragging rights.

When the men returned to the pro shop, on the beautiful June day, they had cooked up a storm on the course. Like the Pied Piper, they drew in huge crowds from our Junior Golfers who followed them around every hole and the golf lived up to the buzz. Jim had a hole in one on his way to shooting a fantastic 5 under par while Tommy broke his own record by a single shot meaning the new record is now -7! Birdies came in all but two holes for Tommy who couldn’t put a foot wrong on the day. It is a great testament to our course which is a challenge to seasoned golfers and beginners alike and it is great inspiration to our juniors to see a fantastic level of golf played on their home course.

It will be interesting to see if anyone can better Tommy’s course record, perhaps the new generation of Carvills, Dáire and Rían will be able to mirror their dad and uncle.
