Kellys University Challenge 2012
Kellys University Challenge 2012:
Kellys Universtiy Challenge took place on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June 2012. The competition was the first of it's kind at the golf centre with a prize of £200 up for grabs for the winner.
With over 30 entrants, the £200 first prize proved to be a great incentive for all those students who were competing. Local football rivalries were continuing on the course with members from the Burren, Warrenpoint and Clonduff clubs all doing battle to see who could reign supreme. It wasn't just the men who were out to try and get the top prize, as the competition proved a huge hit with a number of local women, none more so than Rachel Kelly who posted the top female score.
In the end it was Burren native John Gilfedder who finished in top spot posting a fantastic level par score over 18 holes. Down and Burren footballer Anton McArdle came in 2nd with a score of 1 over par, ensuring a prize of £50 for his efforts. Local Warrenpoint man Ross McGarry completed the top 3 with a fine 2 over and a prize of £25 for his efforts.
There were a number of other spot prizes handed out on the day, including a nearest the pin award for Kilkeel native Martin Quinn who hit a quite magnificant shot on the 6th hole.
